RailLog Korea welcomes over 22,000 visitors with largest ever rolling stock display

14 Aug 2023

With an uptick in global visitors, the 11th edition of RailLog Korea has demonstrated its resurgence as an international trade fair for the railway and logistics industries. Held from 14 – 17 June at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Centre – BEXCO, the 2023 edition welcomed 22,819 visitors (2021: 21,484) and featured 123 exhibitors (2021: 95) from 14 countries and regions. Running concurrently with the fair, The Ministerial Conference for the Organisation for Cooperation between Railways, and the 2023 Hyperloop Conference were also held.

Together, the synergy of these international events attracted global experts in the railway and logistics industry, who praised the organisers for creating valuable opportunities for business and networking. This validated both the positioning of the fair and the city of Busan as a vital business hub for the industry. Following a post-pandemic rise in overseas visitors, a 29% increase in exhibitors, and exhibitor requests for more space in 2025, the organisers plan to reserve more hall space at the next edition.

Rolling stock displayed at largest ever scale

With participation from heavyweights such as Hyundai Rotem and Dawonsys, visitors were able to survey a total of seven train vehicles at the show, with the former welcoming visitors to six rolling stock, including a tram powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

“RailLog Korea is an opportunity to promote the excellence of Hyundai Rotem's power-distributed, high-speed rail technology,” explained Mr Kim Yong Hwan, Senior Manager of the company’s Rail Business Management Team. “In addition, we were able to showcase our eco-friendly hydrogen solutions including our electric trams. The show has helped us promote hydrogen railway technologies and lay the groundwork for commercialisation.”

Dawonsys also attracted a substantial number of visitors with their EMU-150, which will replace the old vehicles of Korail – Korea’s public rail operator. Mr Ma Jeong Hyun, the company’s Business Planning Team Manager, noted: “RailLog Korea provides a comprehensive showcase of Korea's growing railway and related technologies at a glance to a global audience. We look forward to participating again in the future to demonstrate our new technologies.”

Mr Woo Sungjin, Manager of Korea national railway, was equally enthusiastic, stating: “The fair provides an opportunity to spread knowledge and insights on railway technology, and it was a valuable opportunity to promote Korea's excellent railway technology to the world.”

Concurrent international events

Hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, the Ministerial Conference of the Organisation for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) was held concurrently with the fair. The event hosted more than 150 channel players, including heads of railway authorities, major railway operators, and international organizations.

In addition, the 2023 Hyperloop Conference attracted global players to RailLog Korea, including Hyperloop start-ups, corporates, suppliers, and investors. Zeleros hyperloop, a high-tech company from Spain, joined RailLog Korea as an exhibitor to demonstrate their latest technology and vision for this new mode of transport. The Hyperloop Conference is the leading international conference on high-speed transportation. After two editions in Germany, the conference chose Busan, and RailLog Korea, for its first global edition outside of Europe.

RailLog Korea is jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt Korea Ltd and BEXCO, co-organised by the Korea Railway Association (KORASS) and the Korea Rolling Stock Industries Association (KORSIA), and hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) and the Korea Rail Network Authority (KR).
